Current Programs Available
This lockdown had been a tough time for lots of people. For youth, who grieve very differently from adults, grief and loss can feel like another, lonelier version of isolation. Thanks to all of our funders and donors, youth between the ages of 13-24 are eligible to receive specialized counselling services and participate in peer group programs to help them navigate grief and loss at no cost. If you’re 18 and older, you can self-refer.
Short-Term Grief Counselling (NEW)
We are now providing short-term grief counselling support to youth between the ages of 13-24 yrs. Provided by registered clinical counsellors, for more information on eligibility criteria, how to access and obtain a fillable referral form. Click here for more information.
Learning Through Loss Group Program (LLGP) This is a specialized eight-week program facilitated by a registered clinical counsellor and co-facilitator for youth between the ages of 13-24 who are struggling with grief/loss/transition. These groups provide a safe place to connect with peers, gain invaluable support, and most importantly, find strength and hope in their own resilience and capacity to survive, adapt, and grow through loss. Offered on a virtual platform until further notice. By referral (see fillable referral form above) Good Grief Workshops (GGWs) LTL has been facilitating these valuable, interactive one-hour workshops in the classroom for more than a decade. We work to support school districts across the south island and have strong working relationships with many schools. These in-person, interactive workshops are on hold during the pandemic, but we are working on being able to offer these signature workshops via video feed/ZOOM for as long as the pandemic ensues. Keep an eye out for news of this happening in summer. Community Education Workshops (CEWs) CEWs are based on the Good Grief Workshop format but are aimed at family members like parents, grandparents, siblings, friends, neighbours, teachers. CEWs are for anyone who wants to learn about grief and loss in youth and how to support those who are grieving. These workshops are 90 minutes in length with time for Q & A at the end. Work is also underway to bring this workshop through ZOOM. Watch our feeds for upcoming announcements. Supporting Youth In Grief Workshops (SYW) These half day workshops are tailored to professionals; teachers and youth service providers who work directly with youth. This half-day workshop focuses on how to support youth through their unique grief and loss experiences with a more comprehensive view on how youth grieve. Among topics discussed include the types of issues they might see in grieving students while learning effective ways to support them. Booked on demand and offered in an online format.
